Ford Australia unveiled images of the Mustang whose racing specifications would be presented during its Supercars Championship debut next year.
The upcoming "demanding testing program" of the new Mustang Supercar prototype was made by DJR Team Penske, the oldest team of what was once called the V8 Supercars.
Having made its debut in 1980, the team already has seven pilot championships, five of which were won by the team's founder ("DJR" himself) Dick Johnson. The Gold Coast-based training also won the 2017 team championship.
The first tests of the V8 engine-powered bruiser – a collaborative effort between Ford Performance, Ford Australia and the Ford Asia-Pacific design studio – have apparently been conducted "without fail" on the Willowbank circuit in Queensland.
Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard, first cousin of David, 13-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner, have been detailed in the trials, although Tickford Racing, who will also be competing in at least three Ford Mustangs next season, will also be part of it . of the car's development program of approval.
23RedRacing is also expected to enter a single Mustang for Bathurst's two-time winner, Will Davison.
The technical details are still in their infancy, but expect the first coupe to start a V8 Supercars race in nearly two decades to make a splash in its competitive debut in Adelaide on March 2nd and 3rd.
The legend of the muscle cars is expected to replace the long-term Ford Falcon, which has participated in the largest series of Australian touring cars since 1970 and will complete its final season this year. The history of the Falcon competition is impressive and draws to a close with 15 drivers 'championships under the hood, as well as 14 of Ford's 19 victories in the series' flagship Bathurst at Mount Panorama.
