Ford has recently unveiled its much-anticipated all-electric SUV with photo rendering on the web. The automaker of Dearborn, Michigan, is known for working on what appears to be a more affordable competitor to Tesla Model X after making the announcement at the January Detroit Auto Show. Its formula is to use the same global platform on which the powered Mustang rests, while boosting the aspirations for performance versus the economy.

The idea garnered support until rumors surfaced that Ford was planning to double the all-electric performance SUV as the new "Mach 1.". The famous Mach 1 nameplate comes from a highly desired special version of the original 1969-1970 Mustang. Naming an electric SUV after one of its iconic cars is not what Ford fans had in mind.

Nevertheless, the rendering shows the silhouette profile of the rear axle of the new SUV, where it is clearly inspired by the taillights and triple-lens of the Ford Mustang. The lines of the roof lines and shoulders seem to have been designed on the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé model. That said, this new Mach 1 electric SUV will likely have a coupe-shaped roof, both low, for aerodynamics and a sporty appearance, as Ford pushes it like a performance EV SUV.

Official details are not yet available, so speculation continues to be high for this latest SUV. Rumors suggest that it will be ready in 2020, with promises of autonomy of 300 miles.

"It's an exciting time to offer a winning portfolio of electrified vehicles," wrote Darren Palmer, global director of product development at Ford, in an exclusive editorial for Medium. "My team and I are both proud and motivated by the company's $ 11 billion investment to bring 16 fully electric vehicles into a global portfolio of 40 electrified vehicles until 2022."

This latest performance is part of Ford's latest electrification drive to introduce more hybrid and electric vehicles into its lineup in the coming years. As the campaign progresses, this electrification campaign will also reach the famous Ford Mustang. Ford has also committed to focus on building and selling more SUVs and crossovers, as they remain popular, hence the company's decision to make this new Mach 1 electric vehicle an SUV.
