At first, I was excited to see Bryan Cranston (Walter White of Breaking Bad) in Ford's new one-minute television commercial on how the company was building the future. However, curiosity changes in seconds when from nowhere, Ford's video (below) shows an electric look similar to that of a Mustang presented 37 seconds later. The car presented looks a lot like the Mustang and, in the video, comes after the transition from the very first generation of Ford Mustang to the current 2018 Mustang.
Ford has left us a lot of questions in this video. The advertisement shows the new 2019 Ford Mustang on the desert highway and is soon moving to the animation of a 5-liter V8 engine. This is followed by a sequence of a car looking like a Mustang that we had never seen before. The car draws its huge resemblance to the new Mustang but gets a new body color panel with an emblem lit in black to replace the grille. This new logo is not entirely new and we have seen it on vehicles like Volkswagen I.D Crozz and I.D Buzz, as well as on the Mercedes-Benz EQ concept. Most of these concept vehicles have adopted this style to ensure that the electric variant looks different from the standard variants.
The teasing model could very well be the first Ford Mustang hybrid gasoline-electric that is expected to debut in 2020. Ford is very secretive about this new product and could also surprise us with a crossover based on the Ford Mustang. It is quite possible that Ford has just published the teaser of his crossover inspired by the Mustang. The new SUV promotion campaign has already begun and this advertising could follow the new model.
It's also a bold move by Ford to place a Mustang emblem on a crossover vehicle with the risk of diluting the hard-earned reputation and rich heritage of the model. If this is true, Ford has indeed openly declared that the design of its new, unnamed car would take over the design elements of the famous sports car. In an interview with Automotive News, Mustang Chief Engineer Darrel Behmer said that if Ford could capitalize on the respect of the performance and design of the Mustang, that's a good thing.
All that will be said later will be pure speculation and Ford has neither confirmed nor denied this information. Expect more details on these lines at the upcoming LA auto show, the Detroit auto show and the 2019 CES show. Bryan Cranston, speaking on behalf of Ford, concludes by stating, "That other manufacturers dream of the future, it is us (Ford) who will build it ".
