FortniteSeason 6 is here. There is no big event this time around, but there are new elements, new areas to eliminate, and look at the puppy.
Season 5 ended with the long moving cube of the game dissolving into Lake Loot and bouncing the surface. With season 6, the cube has launched an island in the sky. You can access it by the swirling vortex of the lake. It's really cool.
New pets, riding on their backs, are more exciting than flying islands. For the first time in my life, I bought the battle pass so that the dog you see is at the top of the pole. When I jumped off the bus, I screamed in panic and I think I heard it barking when I was eliminated. There is also a dragon and a chameleon that you can unlock later in the fight pass, but why would you choose a pet, real or virtual, on a dog?
Other changes include the introduction of "shadow stones", consumables that make you invisible when you stay still. You can not use your weapon when you are invisible, but you can use your main fire button to cross objects. I did not see him in action in a match, but in some ways he takes the place of the jumpers bouncers, allowing you to do a little cyberpunk escapade.
On console, matchmaking will now be based on entries. Epic says that players using the mouse and keyboard on PS4 will now be "placed in the PC linking pool".
Epic also defeated the submachine gun, the impulse grenade, the light machine gun and the remotely suppressed explosives. Changes have been made to the circle, which now has a reduced waiting time to shrink, but takes longer to shrink. There is a scary castle in Haunted Hills and other new map changes that I have not survived long enough to see. Check out the full release notes for all the details.
It's a little disappointing not to have a big event, but these changes are fun, what I want most of all Fortnite. Also, dog.
