Fortnite's Save The World mode does not become free this year

Fortnite has enjoyed tremendous popularity thanks to its free Battle Royale mode, but the original Save the World mode will also switch to a free model. These plans have been postponed since 2018 because Epic says it needs to progress on some additional modifications and features before proceeding with the transition.

In an update regarding its Save the World mode, Epic suggests that the popularity of Fortnite as a whole means that it must be prepared for a large influx of new users once STW will be free for all.

"We're working on a wide range of features, tweaks, and scaling backend systems that we think are essential to play for free," he said. "Increasing the number of heroes of players who will participate in the fight is essential to providing an excellent experience, and this applies to all our players, old and new, so we take the time to do it right."

If you can not wait for the game to be free, Epic is holding a 50% off sale for the Standard, Deluxe, Standard Deluxe and Limited Founder packs starting later this week. This means that your cheapest option will soon be $ 20, until it is free. The founders will also receive a free Brainiac Jonesy and a Ramirez Skull Ranger if they log in during the Fortnitemares Halloween event.

The update also details an important change to the Hero system to give you more flexibility when loading, as well as several improvements to the front-end user interface.

The Save the World PvE cooperative mode was Fortnite's original pitch and is in development as the popularity of the open-access PvP game, Battle Royale, exploded. It's fair to say that the free version of the game has overshadowed its original vision, especially since PvE is not available for some versions, including the Nintendo Switch or games for mobile. But at least some of its important audience may be going into Save the World once it's free, so Epic is looking to get ready.
