There is a lot of positivity regarding the 10th anniversary of the Samsung Galaxy S10, and for good reason. The new flagship product of the company will be to be heavily redesigned, correspond to best feature of the iPhone X, offer a tip fingerprint reader in display and (potentially) even quick updates from Android. But unfortunately, we now know the Galaxy S10 biggest upgrade comes with a bad surprise …
"Great Secret Features" and "Nasty Surprises" are my chronicles about the best features and the biggest problems behind headlines.
The bearer of this bad news is The Bell, a consistently reliable site of South Korea, home country of Samsung. In one new report, this confirms that Samsung will limit 5G capabilities integrated into Galaxy S10 to a single limited edition model whose production will be "negligible".
The Bell specifies this as a maximum of 2 million units out of the 40 million Galaxy S10 models produced in 2019. The price of the Galaxy S10 +, the most expensive model, should also reach nearly $ 1,000. the most expensive mass market phone that Samsung has ever released.
And this has important repercussions.
While the 5G networks will not be released until the end of the year, and certainly will not be generalized to the launch of the Galaxy S10 in early 2019, they will evolve quickly as operators compete to boast of have the best coverage. Given that the Galaxy S10 will represent a multi – year investment of about $ 1,000, the purchase of a phone as expensive next year without the 5G seems reckless.
Plus, Samsung has some history here.
When the Galaxy S4 (model I9500) was launched in 2013, it was missing the next Advanced LTE The 4G and Samsung standard then sold a Galaxy S4 LTE-A (I9506) edition at a higher price later this year. The first buyers of the Galaxy S4 have not been impressed.
So, what would motivate Samsung not to strip the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 + 5G when the two chipset variants used by the company (Snapdragon and its own Exynos range) will be compatible with 5G? I suspect the information that Apple's trust in Intel modems means next year, you will not have a compatible iPhone 5G.
But this is not a way of doing business. With Android competitors expected to leap on the 5G in 2019, the Samsung Galaxy S10 might be left out, which would be a real shame. After all, the launch of the 10th anniversary should highlight Samsung's vision for the future, and not limit the phone to the past …
