Galaxy S10 will receive the best fingerprint sensor in Qualcomm's screen (report)

The report, previously discovered by SamMobile, adds that Samsung is opting for the third generation version of the sensor, more reliable and generally faster than its predecessor.

According to rumors, the Galaxy S8 is thinking of grouping a virtual fingerprint sensor in its smartphones. However, in 2017, the company found that the technology was not yet ready and that it could not work reliably. As his work continued with the Galaxy Note 8 last year and the Galaxy S9 line this year, Samsung again decided not to use a virtual sensor and opted for a physical sensor at the 39, back of the device.
The Galaxy Note 9 that was launched recently also has a physical sensor.

It is unclear exactly how the fingerprint sensor could work. However, Qualcomm has introduced its technology as a reliable alternative to physical options. It uses ultrasonic pulses and sensors to obtain a 3D model of the edges of your fingertips and compares these results to the fingerprint that it contains. The 3D representation means that the sensor should be less likely to be fooled than the 2D alternatives.

Rumors have been circulating for months that Samsung has decided to reserve its virtual sensor for the Galaxy S10 it intends to launch early next year. This device, according to reports, will come with a variety of upgrades on the Galaxy S9, including a new design, better software and improved cameras. It will also be more powerful than this year's models. The addition of a virtual fingerprint sensor to the device – a first for a Samsung smartphone – could consolidate its place as a major upgrade.

The upcoming iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone Xc (rumor names) should not offer fingerprint sensors. Instead, they will probably all stick with the Apple Face ID unlock feature. But Apple may decide to provide an on-screen fingerprint sensor for its 2019 iPhones.

As for the future, there is a debate about when Samsung could launch the Galaxy S10. Some reports announced its release at CES in January, and others said Samsung could wait until February for the Mobile World Congress.
