The Samsung Galaxy S10 is still in a few months, but the flagship product continues to appear in leaks and reports, suggesting that the launch is coming. The latest story in Korea says something we suspect for a while now: the Galaxy S10 will have the kind of design we've always dreamed of.

Over the past few weeks, we've seen Samsung announce an Infinity-O display that would now be the screen of the Galaxy S10: a screen that extends from one edge to the other and has only a tiny hole for the selfie camera. Other leaks also mentioned the new screen design of the Galaxy S10 series.

Now, Korean site TheElec says the phone will have a frameless OLED screen, which means that the phone will not have upper or lower frames. Instead, the phone would feature two holes at the top, one for the camera lens and an infrared sensor, while all the other sensors usually located inside a senior executive would go under the screen.

Samsung Display is currently developing these displays using diode-pumped solid state lasers (DPSS) to punch holes in the displays, the report says. Meanwhile, Samsung is creating a new user interface that can handle the holes. The status bar at the top of the phone displays information on the left and right sides of the hole, including the name of the operator, the cellular antenna signal, the life of the phone. battery, duration, etc. A black border can hide the camera while playing the video.

Making these screens is tricky enough for Samsung to consider a backup plan of planting a small L-shaped notch on the upper right or left side of the screen containing the front camera and the sensors. Samsung introduced other Infinity displays at SDC18 last week, including Infinity-U and Infinity-V screens that feature tiny notches at the top, even smaller than the OnePlus 6T's top frame.

The report also notes that Apple is "likely" to opt for a zero-bin display in the future, according to an industry observer. Apple has a patent that details the type of technology needed to punch holes in a screen, but it seems unlikely that Apple will drop the notch. This is because all new Apple iPhones are compatible with facial identity or 3D facial recognition, thanks to a set of components placed inside the notch.
