If you own a Samsung Galaxy Note8, you might soon have a little less envy for those who own the latest and greatest Note9. A recent update of last year's Note device brings the AR Emoji and Super Slow-Mo video capabilities to the camera, as well as the September security patch. It should be noted that to date, this update appears to have been deployed only on some Note8 phones running on the Exynos 8895 chipset.

Construction number N950FXXU5CRHA, which is close to 712 MB, began rolling earlier this week and was first noticed in France. Here is the changelog:

This update appears to be for single SIM versions, Exynos of Note8, available in Europe and Australia. The Samsung website does not indicate that a similar update is available for Snapdragon variants of the device in the United States to date.

It should also be noted that the AR Emoji, which can be described as a frightening amusement, arrives at the Note8 in a slightly sterilized form. Although avatar customization options are completely intact, Note8 users will not be able to take AR Emoji photos in real time, according to SamMobile. The new feature is also a bit complicated to use and requires to download the My Emoji Maker app from the Galaxy Apps store (or you can try to recover it from APKMirror).

Super Slo-Mo, of course, allows you to record videos in slow motion. The S9 and S9 + can record 960 frames per second in 720p; It is not clear yet if the Note8 has similar features to the latest update.

The update should soon be rolled out to the Exynos variants of the Note8 in countries outside France if it has not started yet. We will have to wait to see if Snapdragon variants of the phablet are online for update too.
