Earlier this month, a redesign of Google Assistant announced for the first time during I / O 2018 began to be deployed on Android. By inspiring smart displays, the wizard has become more visual, more user-friendly and offers quick access to the stream of updates. The weather, searches and other results load the old map style, which is not full height, while the speech bubble style and various icons have also been reversed. Sweep no longer opens the "Google Updates Wizard" tab.but rather the history of your queries.
This redesign of the assistant is due to "almost half of the interactions with the assistant, including[ing] both vocal and tactile. It features large dials and sliders to change volume and control smart home appliances such as thermostats. Inspired by the Google Home Hub, the focus is on adding large cover images and bold text to cards, as well as more user-friendly buttons that conform to the company's latest look.

Other recently deployed features, such as redesigning the wizard's settings in Google Material Theme, are still present.
It's probably a server-side bug, this regression occurring on both devices running the stable version and the latest beta version of the Google app. On phones – like the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL – which were launched with the new design, the latest assistant is still available.
