The Wall Street Journal, citing internal emails, said Thursday that company staff had discussed ways to change search functions to counter the 2017 travel ban imposed by the Trump administration.
The newspaper report says Google did not adopt the ideas that were debated.
According to Axios, Pichai wrote an email to "Googlers," stating that an internal email suggesting that the company would compromise the integrity of its search results for a political purpose was "absolutely false".
"It is important to me that our internal culture continues to strengthen our mission of organizing global information and making it accessible and useful to all. Recent articles refer to an internal email to suggest that we are compromising the integrity of our search results for a political purpose, "said Pichai, quoted by Axios.
Google was not immediately available to comment.
