Google will no longer support Reply, an experimental app that provides intelligent answers to various email applications, such as Slack, Hangouts and Messenger. The app was launched earlier this year as part of Google's Area 120 division, which incubates and tests goofy apps.
"As you know, Reply was an experience and this one is now over," wrote Google in an email to beta testers. "Although it may still work for the next few months, you may encounter bugs or find that the suggestions are not as good." The company said it would incorporate what it learned from the application in other Google products, which include Smart Compose and Smart Reply. (Smart Reply is also available on Android messages.)
When I tested the app earlier this year, I found that Reply's automated responses were often bland, rather oriented to affirmative responses, or simply simply the name of the message received. He also tended to suggest "I like you" as the third default answer, regardless of context.
Reply also had to deploy a Google Maps integration and calendar that could offer appointment suggestions or travel estimates based on the user's current location and traffic conditions, but none of these suggestions would be helpful. was recently available with Reply. However, if Google plans to continue deploying these features, expect to see them first in Gmail and Android Messages.
