According to Strategy Analytics, Google Home Mini was the world's best-selling smart speaker in the second quarter of 2018. Google sold 2.3 million devices, or 20 percent market share for the quarter.

Amazon, which still dominates the market as a whole, has seen two of its smart speakers complete the first three quarters: Amazon Echo Dot, second with 2.2 million shipments and 18% market share. There were 1.4 million Echo shipments, or 12% of the market.

The Apple HomePod has not made it into the top 5: it represents only 6% of the market. However, he was the Q2 market leader in terms of turnover, with a share of 16%. In the small but growing market of smart speakers, which cost more than $ 200, HomePod holds 70% of the shares.

After Amazon Echo, the most popular devices were Alibaba Tmall Genie (with 800,000 shipments) and Google Home (800,000 shipments).

Overall, shipments reached 11.7 million units for the quarter, down from 3.9 million in the second quarter of 2017. Last month, Strategy Analytics noted that the growing market is impacting Amazon's dominance: Seattle's market share percentage, down from 44% in the first quarter and 76% in the second quarter of 2017.

The growing market generated more than $ 1 billion in wholesale revenues for the second quarter of 2018. While Google Home Mini and Amazon Echo Dot accounted for 38% of global shipments, they accounted for only 17% of revenues.

In a statement, Strategy Analytics Vice President David Mercer suggested the market would continue to grow, including the premium segment.

"The number of smart speaker models available around the world has increased dramatically over the last twelve months as providers seek to capitalize on the explosive growth of the market," he said. "Heavy brands such as Samsung and Bose are launching their first models, adding credibility to the segment and offering consumers more options at the forefront of the market."
