Think about it. the better It can be said about your daily commute back to work is that it was not as bad as it could have been. In the United States, the average commute time varies from just under an hour a day. If you work in a big city or nearby, it is probably longer and, if something goes wrong, it can be much worse. Unless you get closer to your workplace, you can not get around it. But it would be much less frustrating to have the necessary information to avoid delays and missed connections. Google Maps takes steps to provide you with this information when you can best use it.
Google Maps is deploying a new feature that provides real-time information designed to help you manage your journey as efficiently as possible. It starts with the estimated time for your usual route. You are informed of delays and alternative routes with estimated travel times are suggested. If you use Android, Maps will provide you with updates during your transit so you can adjust your route before you get caught off guard.
If your trip combines walking, driving and public transit, the new Maps feature calculates the total transit time for you. The location of your train or bus is shown on the map if you live in one of the 80 cities where this feature is supported. If you live in Sydney, Australia, Maps even tells you how busy the bus or train is, so you know in advance if you can find a spot or if you have to wait for the next carrier. More cities will receive this feature "soon".
You can also control music apps with Google Maps if you're using Spotify, Google Play Music, or Apple Music. No need to switch between applications. Browsing in playlists, albums, songs, and podcasts is enabled for Spotify users on Android.
The new Travel tab does not cover people who commute to work by bike. Cycling information would be particularly useful for commuters who travel to a public transportation hub and drop off their ride-on bike or take their bike with them on the bus or train. It would be nice to see this feature added in a future update.
As powerful as Google is, it can not make our travels disappear. But the new Google Maps feature can make these trips less frustrating and give us more time to do what we enjoy. It seems to me an obvious victory.
