Google Maps boosts its application for electric vehicle owners – TechCrunch

Google Maps is strengthening its application to help electric vehicle owners find the most appropriate and closest place to recharge their batteries.

Google Maps announced Tuesday that it has added an electric vehicle charging feature to the app that would provide users with information about charging stations. Google has been offering charging stations for several years. But now Google Maps is showing more stations in supported networks and providing information about the stations themselves, including the number of available load ports and the speed with which they can load.

Users can type keywords such as "ev recharge" or "EV charging stations" to view the nearest supported stations.

The electric vehicle charging search function is starting to be deployed on Tuesday on Android and iOS, and desktops will be launched in the coming weeks.

Google Maps now supports charging stations around the world, including Tesla and ChargePoint worldwide. In the United States, the feature also includes SemaConnect, EVgo and Blink. ChargeMaster and Pod Point are included in Google Maps in the UK and ChargeFox stations will be broadcast in Australia and New Zealand.

Google Maps will display information about the company where the station is located, the types of ports available, the loading speeds, and the number of available ports. Users will also view station information from drivers, including photos, notes, reviews, and questions.

There are other third-party applications containing this type of information, including PlugShare, which was a must-have source for many electric vehicle owners in the past. Innogy recently acquired PlugShare's parent company, Recargo.
