During the summer, Google began testing Waze type reports in Google Maps to detect incidents such as accidents. Now, it seems that the company is relying on this feature with the new Google Maps reporting capabilities that few users currently see.

According to two users of Reddit and another Android font Tip, Google Maps for Android is testing a new reporting option. This addition to the application allows users to report speed traps and accidents on their route in navigation mode.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a very early and approximate test of this feature. Users who have access note that the report creation option appears only when the application automatically displays the interface. Apparently, this happens when similar reports are already entered, but it is not clear exactly where the original data came from. Presumably, Google would add a button that allows users to report these incidents to the user interface when they are widely deployed.
In theory, the addition of Google Maps reporting capabilities is a huge gain for users. With such a large user base, data from the crowd would make daily commute less complex and give Maps more data to use for other features.
