Google Maps supports built-in music to the application and a new tab

Google is launching a new commuter-focused update for its Maps service, which provides far more information to commuters and lets you control your music from the app. A new transport tab allows you to detect any congestion or disruption on your route before your departure, and you will get specific travel information for each leg of your trip. If you like to get to the bus stop a few seconds before the bus, this update is for you.

The most interesting feature of the update is probably that in "80 regions of the world", Google Maps will tell you exactly where your train or bus is before it arrives. Yes, it is essentially a visual version of the delivery times already displayed by the app, but it should be much easier to understand at a glance. In Sydney, Google Maps will even show the number of passengers on future trains and buses, and hope to roll out similar features in other cities in the near future.

Users in certain areas will be able to see the location of their train or bus in real time.

Finally, if you use Spotify, Apple Music or Google Play Music, you can control playback from the navigation application. This is a minor feature, but it takes less attention than switching from one application to another.

Depending on whether you use iOS or Android, there are minor differences in features. Android users can enable real-time notifications on route disruptions. They will also benefit from a higher level of Spotify integration allowing them to browse audio content from the Maps application.

New updates are deployed globally through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store this week.
