Based on the launch of Pixel 2 last year, we are still two months away from confirming everything Google has planned for 2018. But that is not going to stop internet detectives from trying to find all the information they can. Over the weekend, two leaks appeared that could have interesting consequences on what Google will eventually announce later this year.
The first news comes from a post on the XDA Developers forum (Imgur mirror here) showing what appears to be leaked pictures of the next pixel 3. While the first shot from the back of the phone does seems not all intriguing, apart from the absence of the two-tone design seen on the previous pixels and the absence of dual rear cameras, the front of the phone seems to be much more divided.
I mean, look at it. This cut is huge. I've already argued that there's no point in annoying the notches because they are often a practical solution to give consumers an extra small screen. But the notch on this so-called Pixel 3 is a little different. The size of this group of sensors seems to surpass everything else on the market, while projecting into the screen significantly. It's a daring look for sure, but this could be an example of the entire nib trend taking a little too far.
The other element of Pixel news comes in the form of a code discovered by 9to5Google hidden in the latest version of the Google application, which mentions a reliable dock and a string that says:
Your assistant may use your personal information to make suggestions, answer questions and take action for you when your phone is locked and on your Pixel stand
Although this is not the first time we hear about Google could potentially create a dock for use with Pixel Phones, the latest code snippet paints a much better picture of what this device might actually be. In addition to being a standard wireless charger, suggesting that the next pixel will support wireless charging for the first time, it seems that this "Pixel Stand" could also turn your phone into a smart speaker that would use the phone screen to view the information if any. Considering the recent launch of Google and Lenovo's first smart screen, the Pixel booth could help Google grow its growing smart home range, while helping bridge the gap between Google Home, the $ 50 Home Mini and Smart Display, which starts at $ 200.
It is still too early to take any of these leaks as a fact. However, if the Pixel 3 ends up with a gigantic hack, it is possible that the most interesting product of Google this fall is the new accessories of the pixel rather than the phone itself.
