Browsers have become powerful beasts, capable of practically managing an operating system and even performing virtual reality experiments. Its big test is however in the field of games, where frame rates and input response must be fast. The Google solution? Streaming game.
The idea of streaming games is not new, from PlayStation Now to NVIDIA GeForce NOW. Both have in common that you need inexpensive machines to make them work. Google's project flow? Just a Chrome browser. Well, at least one on a decent computer. And another with an Internet speed of at least 25 Mbps.
Google opened subscriptions last week and according to slenderming2 from Reddit, beta codes have begun to sink for a select few. Better still, his experience with Odyssey in terms of performance was rather positive, although multitasking still seems a bit crude.
Of course, it's still a very exclusive club and not everyone who has applied for registration has received a pass. Moreover, it is only in the United States, for practical and technical reasons. But if it really took off, it could change the way the games will be delivered in the near future.
