Google Slides adds live captions to its presentations.

As part of Accessibility Awareness Month, Google is adding a new captioning feature to its Slideshow, G Suite Presentation App. The function uses a built-in microphone on a computer to automatically transcribe the speaker's words and display them in real-time as subtitles on the slide presented. The feature is primarily intended to help members of the deaf and hard of hearing audience, but should also enhance the experience of those who understand written English better than spoken.

Powerpoint has similar features, but more robust, for over a year. The Microsoft service uses the translator's live translation feature to translate the oral presentation into 60 different languages ​​and transmit it directly to participants' phones.

Google's captioning feature is only available for the moment in US English, but will be available worldwide for anyone using Slides via Chrome on the desktop or on a laptop starting this week. To enable it, click the "CC" button in the navigation area when you start presenting, or use the Ctrl + Shift + C keys on Windows or Command + Shift + C on a Mac.
