Google is expected to launch at least one new Chrome device during the Pixel 3 event, including its very first Chrome OS tablet. The code name "Nocturne", the tablet will be sold as Google Pixel Slate, a report announced a few days ago. But a new revelation makes Nocturne even more interesting: the 2-in-1 device can double-boot Windows 10.
If you've always wanted Google to let you use Windows 10 with Chrome OS on your Chromebook, you're probably aware of all the rumors that such a plan is already underway. It's unclear whether Google will announce next week the release of dual-boot Chrome OS devices, but 9to5Google proved that Slate Pixel can run Windows 10 at any given time.
A Chromium commit from July indicates that Windows 10 support could be considered for the Slate Pixel. "Windows 10 will be BSOD early on startup […] with the way things are currently presented ", is the main quote of the commit, which previously had a different phrasing:" I have an operating system that can not start with the way things are currently presented. "
It's unclear whether Google has fixed the issues and whether Pixel Slate will be launched with dual boot features next week or whether support for Windows 10 will be rolled out in the future.
But running both Windows 10 and Chrome OS on the same device certainly looks interesting, especially for high-end Chromebooks. It's important to note that not all existing Chromebooks will benefit from Windows 10 support once the Pixel Slate is available, only the most expensive models. This is because you need enough memory to run both operating systems, which can be a problem for the less expensive versions.
