The latest version of the Apple MacBook Pro was launched a week ago, and we have now spent time with the basic model of 15 inches with a six-core i7 processor. Read on for our first preview and impressions as well as benchmarks for what will be one of the most popular MacBook Pro configurations.
Design
From the outside, there is no discernible difference between the 2018 MacBook Pro and those of the last years. It still has a pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports on the left side and another pair next to a headphone jack on the right side.
Colors always appear on the last screens. The new unit now supports True Tone, the Apple Color Temperature Change feature that tints the display according to the environment. It uses a pair of ambient light sensors built into the screen to detect lighting in the room, then adjusts the display to match it. This technology was created for the first time in the iPad Pro a few years ago, before coming to the iPhone, and now on the Mac.
True Tone is really easier to look at in our office lit by fluorescent lights. Previously, the display came off a little in blue. But now, the color fits much better and is not so tiring when looking all day long.
Apple has had some of the best portable speakers integrated into the industry, and the new model improved on this point. Apple clearly puts its audio knowledge to use with a much more complete sound. There are noticeable improvements both in the midrange, as well as lows in these new speakers.
The trackpad is still big and just below the new third-generation butterfly keyboard. These are the same chiclet-style touches, but have a new butterfly mechanism underneath that is designed to be quieter.
Third Generation Keyboard
We were very excited to test this new keyboard, especially to determine the changes that lent themselves to better reliability, which could be a serious problem for owners of previous models with the butterfly keyboard . 19659004] 15 "MacBook Pro 2018 Keyboard" class = "lazy" data-original = "https://photos5.appleinsider.com/gallery/26826-38849-2018-MacBook-Pro-Keyboard-l.jpg" />
Shortly after the arrival of the first MacBook Pros at the doors of customers, iFixit discovered that each key contained a new silicone membrane that the repair company really intended to push back. This wandering debris is supposed to have caused many failures, so using this film to exclude it – if that's what's really the case – can go a long way toward reliability. [19659006] This film also contributes to quieter keys, which were immediately noticeable.Typing quickly, it is possible to generate clicks, but overall, the new keyboard was a huge difference from before.

Hey, Siri
Above the keyboard is the same touch bar that many have liked (and many do not have). Touch ID on the right side of the touchbar is still running on one of Apple's custom chips, the T2. This secure chip first debuted in the iMac Pro, with previous generation MacBook professionals using the T1
The Apple T2 is able to support more system processes. Siri "for the first time on a Mac.
Apple intro this feature just after the first start of the new machines, guiding users through the process of enlisting the voice similar to iOS.
The configuration is the same user to repeat several different commands that also serve as refresh on what Siri can do on the Mac, like check the weather and open specific folders.
It worked very well for us, even in a room full of other Apple devices that support Hey, Siri Voice recognition seemed to be effective and seemed to definitely make it a little more useful.It will become even more useful this fall with MacOS Mojave. Performance
For these tests, we were switching to a six-core Intel processor in our 15-inch MacBook Pro. It's a Core i7 processor with a base speed of 2.2 GHz with acceleration up to 4.1 GHz.
Geekbench 4 reported 4,884 for a single heart and 22,179 for the multi-core. Even though we have the basic model of 15 inches, it still exceeds the high-end model of 2017 which won respectively 4,360 and 11,979 for single and multi-core scores.
This is as well above the scores we recorded earlier. 13-inch pro base that won 4,602 and 16,699 for single and multi-core tests.
Graphics-wise, internally, we integrated Intel UHD 630 graphics. In our Geekbench test, weirdly, our 15-inch MacBook Pro at the end of 2016 with an Intel HD 530 processor actually continued to display a higher frequency. The two-year model gained 20,908 while the base model 2018 of 15 inches gained 20,179. There is not much difference, but it is worth noting.
In the real world, thermal stress can limit the maximum power the MacBook Pro could have. We have already started looking for solutions to this problem and to solve the problem of the absence of any fix from Apple.
This year, Apple also improved the RAM in DDR4 instead of LPDDR3, which will take a little more power than in the past years. To help compensate, the internal batteries are a bit bigger across the board.
