For you, some apps look more like essential tools that should be on your iPhone – and some of them already are. The applications highlighted this week are however tools that brilliantly demonstrate to others what the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max can do. These include updates from AirMeasure, Evernote, WaterMinder, Things, Citymapper, Drafts, PCalc, Halide Camera, Overcast and 1Password.

All To Do applications have the problem that you do not always save your tasks. Things and rivals like OmniFocus are designed to make task entry so fast that you never see it again later. For iOS 12, Things 3 has adopted Siri Shortcuts.
You can use Siri for a long time to add it to the Apple Reminders app, and then Things automatically recovers these tasks in its own database. It worked and we did not complain, but you can now completely ignore this workaround. Just tell Siri that you want to add a task to Things and say what it is.

PCalc 3.8.2
It's just a calculator for a decade or more, if you want to see the new Apple technology in action, it's the application that's right for you. It is also a first class calculator that presents all the scientific and mathematical functions imaginable. You even have one that you may not have thought of: reverse Polish notation. Try this time on PCalc and you will be hooked.
Naturally, PCalc therefore adopted Siri Shortcuts, but it did remarkably well, and even surprisingly well. There is not a single function in the entire application that you can not use in Siri Shortcuts – and while it's impressive, it's not that which is superb.
What's great is how PCalc fully exploits Siri shortcuts and then solves the problems that Apple's software still can not solve. Siri Shortcuts is only used to launch commands: you say something and an application gives you a textual, verbal or visual result. Applications can not ask you a question and listen to the answer, for example.
What applications can do, however, is to work with your iOS clipboard and PCalc does it. Copy a number and then you can tell Siri Shortcuts to do something with it.
Suppose you write an e-mail asking for money in US dollars and you need, for whatever reason, to know what the British Pound is. Write the amount in dollars, select it and copy it, then you can say something like "Convert it" – and PCalc will do it.
