Although she probably did not know it at the time, Mercedes-Benz started a fashion show with the monstrous G63 AMG 6 × 6 in 2013. Five years later, the American tuner Hennessey maintains the trend with a six-version wheels of the all-new Chevrolet Silverado 2019 that begins to arrive in the showrooms.
Meet the aptly named Hennessey Goliath 6 × 6. He started as a Trail Boss Z71 model – a high-resolution variant designed for off-roading – and received a third axle. By adding an extra pair of wheels, it was necessary to develop an entirely new suspension system, and Hennessey notes that she lifted the eight-inch truck to help it fly over everything that was opposed to it.
The upgrades continue under the hood. The Goliath 6 × 6 retains the Silverado's 6.2-liter V8 engine, but gains a 2.9-liter boost that translates to a 705-horsepower Dodge Charger Hellcat at 6,200 rpm and a 675-lb. 4,200 rpm. He turns the six wheels through an automatic transmission. We usually do not list the 0 to 60mph times for trucks, but a beast like this deserves an exception. It performs the benchmark sprint in the four second range, which roughly matches the time displayed by an entry-level Porsche 911 and faster than many hot hatches on the market.
Hennessey also added a model-specific grille, a roll bar in the bed, and 20-inch wheels wrapped in 37-inch BF Goodrich off-road tires. We do not know yet if the tuner has touched anything inside the truck.
The Goliath 6 × 6 is not just a wild concept car. He goes to production, but with a huge asterisk. Production is strictly limited to 24 copies worldwide and each starts at $ 375,000, including the price of the donor truck. You could buy a well chosen McLaren 720S for this price and still have money for a set of track tires. Buyers can venture further into supercars territory by selecting additional options like Brembo brakes on all three axles – which we think we probably need – a custom interior and an upgraded V8 engine designed to deliver 808 horsepower.
The good news is that the conversion is approved by Chevrolet. Buyers can order the Goliath 6 × 6 from participating Chevrolet dealers and be reassured knowing that each truck is covered by a 36,000-mile warranty over three years.
