IO Interactive is working hard for the next edition of the hugely popular Hitman franchise. Released in 2016, the titles offer a new version of the bald-headed killer; Encouraging players to achieve their goals in the most professional (or unprofessional) way possible. We praised Hitman's renaissance, citing his revised approach to open commitments and the emphasis on creativity.
Agent 47 is now back with Hitman 2, building on the solid foundation of Hitman 2016. I recently had the chance to participate in building a pre-beta version of Hitman 2, exploring his new expansive Colombian mission. With three distinct areas and the corresponding targets to kill, you can approach the scenario as you wish.
As for the design of the map, Columbia gives the impression of being an open world on Hitman, failing to explore the entire map even during the hours I am with the level. The streets that connect the three main areas are alive and filled with passers-by who speak and express deeper interaction. There are even "side quests" that have the chance to provide valuable information for your main goals.
The three areas are a refuge-style village located on the far left of the map, a central mansion with a manicured garden and a rich flora farm on the right. It really feels like there is a lot of movement between places, each of which is heavily guarded by its respective security personnel. This means that if you do not find a disguise, you will enter illegally by entering the three distinguished places.
Regarding the gameplay, Hitman 2 is identical to Hitman 2016. Everything from the orders until the 47 agent feels, is comparable, which constitutes an inviting return to existing players. And aiming weapons are always looser than your average shooter; by encouraging you to use the environment rather than bullets to kill your targets.
There are, however, new game mechanics. The novelty of Hitman 2 is the ability to hide in the bushes by hiding enemies in blind spots. Unless you hang around, the enemies will not see you in the foliage, and you can lure them inside so that they are easily destroyed. There are also posters around the map that provide additional insight into targets, places and the surrounding world.
Security cameras have also been updated in Hitman 2; there are now more in the levels and even shows you a glimpse of their flow as you walk in sight. You can always destroy all these cameras, which have become an important part of Hitman 2016's toughest stealth sections.
All in all, from what I've seen so far in Hitman 2, I'm seduced by the refinements brought by IO Interactive to the series. Hitman is still at the base, with some minor tweaks and improvements for more immersive gameplay. IO Interactive has also abandoned the episodic model, which means that when it is launched, Hitman 2 will have the full package from the first day. The episodic model of Hitman 2016 had been heavily criticized at the time and, if it brought new opportunities, it will not be missed much.
In the meantime, Hitman 2 is scheduled to debut November 2 on Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4. Preorders are now online for $ 60.
