The Google Pixel Ultra is a great phone. If it's true

Until now, it's more a dream than anything, embodying what fans think Google could and should do.

The Russian website Rozetked is the last to salivate the prospect of the Pixel Ultra – a wonder without cran without glasses (see the concept above).

"The most beautiful phone", says the Russian site in a video. "At least, that's what we want to see."

The logic of these wishful thinking is that Google is a world-class technology company that is theoretically capable of offering groundbreaking and revolutionary design, such as the Ultra Pixel … if it wanted to.

Another way to say it: if Apple can offer a phone as expensive as the iPhone Xs Max, Google can too, says the Russian site in the video.

One more thing

The (tenuous) theory looks pretty much like this: at the October 9 event, when Google will announce Pixel 3 and 3 XL, it will do "one more thing" at the end of the event and will surprise with the Pixel Ultra.

Which would likely be a very big phone with a very big screen.

Needless to say, a craft industry plot theorists of Pixel Ultra * appeared on YouTube in the last month. Some of these YouTubers want to believe that a Google Ultra phone is coming or at least on the drawing board.

Reality check: settle for the Pixel 3 XL

Google-centric technology sites do not buy it, though. For example, 9to5Google, in this video, says that all the big stuff without a screen is nonsense.

But enthusiasts who want to believe in an Ultra Pixel have a point. Google is at the top of the mobile device industry: it controls the Android operating system and its Pixel phones now compete with Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy series in terms of design, manufacturing quality and technical specifications (think: rear camera). Furthermore, Google continues to ensure that new Pixel phones incorporate the latest and best-in-class software, including Google's leading AI software.

So, instead of simply copying competitors with another notched phone, Google should showcase its prowess in research and development with innovative design.

That said, this time around, you'll probably have to settle for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL rumors. Some assumed characteristics are:

  • Pixel 3 XL has a notch: it's supposed to be (that is, the consensus is) a big screen edge-to-edge (apparently much bigger than the 6-inch Pixel 2 XL **) with a high-end housing two camera lenses and speakers, priced between 850 and 950 dollars. (See this rendering of Evan Blass and the renderings included in the post you are reading.)
  • Pixel 3 has no screen: the smaller Pixel 3 will not have a notch, a larger screen than the 5-inch Pixel 2 but will have the same frame size. And this could prove to be the most attractive option because of its larger screen (compared to Pixel 2) and its price in the $ 650 range.
  • The internal specifications of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will be the same, including a high-end rear camera and the new Qualcomm processors.
  • New Pixel Charger Stand: a known wireless charger called "Pixel Stand", according to MySmartPrice, which claims that the media will convert the pixel into a smart screen (whatever that means).
  • A lot of software focused on AI, a Google asset.
