The Google app is pretty simple, but it does not have to stay like this. One way to spice it up is to change the background of the Google search (and adjacent components). Below is a way to edit the new tab page in the most recent version of Chrome.
Before you do all this, of course, make sure you have the Google Chrome browser. This will not work with Microsoft Edge or Firefox. Again, it is the best browser you can download anyway, so you should probably install it anyway.
Step 1: Go to your appearance settings
Open Chrome and search for three points in the upper right corner of your browser window. Click on them to open the main Chrome drop-down menu. At the bottom of the drop-down list, you will see an option to access "Settings". Select this option and you are on your way.
In a new browser tab for all your Chrome settings, you will see that it is divided into several sections. Take a look at the second section, which should call "Appearance". This is where you can control the appearance of your Google window. The first option in this parameter must be "Themes".
Changing your theme will automatically change your Google background to match, so this is the option you want to select. If no theme is selected, you should see an open file in "Open Chrome Web Store". Select this option.
Step 2: Choose your theme
Chrome should now take you directly to the Chrome themes section. Here you can browse the many themes available for your Google experience, broken down by content type. The main image you see is usually the image that will appear as Google background. So you can use it as a guide.
Each section only shows the top rated images for that type of content, but you can take a closer look by choosing "Select All" if you find a section that you like.
Once you have selected a theme, be sure to check out its images and comments. Note that most themes extend their colors and patterns in the browser window and browser tabs. By checking the "Related" tab, you will see more themes by this particular developer.
If you find something you like, just click the "Add to Chrome" button in the upper right corner.
Step 3: Add it to Chrome
The theme must be automatically added and activated. You can see the tabs of your browser evolve with the theme, and if you go to a new Google search page or open a new tab, you should be able to see the main image. A notification will appear at the top of the window to inform you that the theme has been activated. This notification also includes a "Cancel" button to reverse the theme if you want to make a quick change.
See if you like the general theme – sometimes you can like the image, but not like the theme makes your tabs or other colors that it adds in the browser. In this case, press the Cancel button on the notification or return to "Appearances" in "Settings" to return to the default theme. You can choose and disable as many themes as you want by searching the right!
Use a custom image
The themes may not be suitable for you this time, and you may prefer to have a personalized background of some family photos or an incredible nature scene that you have taken. You can do it too, but it will require an additional extension.
Go to the Chrome Web Store and download the extension of the background image. Add this free extension to your Chrome browser. Now you have the option to choose a downloaded image to display as Google background. This image does not affect your tabs or other browser components, and it's a great way to personalize the background with a beloved photo if you do not find the theme you like.
In addition, you can also swap the photo of your new empty tab page in Google Chrome, which can add more personality to the Chrome browsing experience.
This feature is only available in the most recent version of the Chrome browser. Therefore, you want to make sure this version is downloaded.
All you have to do is click on the "Settings" button in the lower right corner of the screen. From there, you have the option to upload your own image or one of Google's photos.
