You have been patient enough not to jump on the first beta of iOS 12 for developers, knowing that a public beta will follow. The good news is that iOS 12 public beta 1 is already available for download, and you can get it on your iPhone or iPad without much hassle.
But since we are looking at unfinished software, you can expect specific bugs and stability issues to affect your overall experience. The good news is that you can always downgrade the public beta from iOS 12 to iOS 11.4 with ease without losing any data.
The first beta of iOS 12 was much more stable than I would have imagined, and this shows that Apple is looking to improve the quality of its software. You can quickly run iOS 12 beta on your phone or tablet without worrying too much about bugs and stability issues. But you can still want to remember the software on iOS 11.4, the latest iOS version of Apple for the public.
There are two ways to downgrade your software and not lose data, depending on whether you regularly back up your phone and tablet or not. Ideally, you have saved your iOS 11.4 installation on iPhone or iPhone before via the iOS 12 public beta update. If that's the case, follow these instructions. You will need the Windows or Mac computer that was used for backup, in case you prefer local backups. If you use iCloud for backups, you still need a PC with iTunes to downgrade your software.
Although it is in your best interest to regularly back up your iPhone, you may have skipped on iOS 12, Public Beta 1, without first pressing the phone. If that's the case, know that you can always go back to iOS 11.4 without losing any data.
You will need iTunes to do it, so go get yourself a computer and a lightning cable. You will need to download the iOS version 11.4 that corresponds to your iPhone or iPad model, the IPSW file – go here and find the appropriate software.
Once the heavy download is complete, you will need to put your iPhone or iPad in DFU mode, following the instructions available here. When this is done, connect your iOS device to the computer mentioned above and go to iTunes.
In iTunes, go to the iPhone or iPad section, and find the Improve button. Press while holding down Option on Mac or Shift on Windows to access a menu that will allow you to select the IPSW file you just downloaded.
That's all you have to do to get out of the public beta iOS 12 1 and get back to iOS 11.4 without losing any data. Rinse and repeat each time you want to go back to a stable iOS version from a beta version. The final version of the iOS 12 will come out in September, so we will have a lot of beta testing until then.
