Heard good things about Destiny 2? Do you want to give a roll? Own a capable PC that meets these minimum requirements? It's your lucky day. Blizzard is hosting its annual Blizzcon celebration right now, and Destiny 2 is not only part of the Activision Blizzard family, it is launched via Battle.net. As such, it receives a little love from Blizzcon and is currently free to download until November 18th.
To get it, all you have to do is download the installation client from here, which will go through battle.net. Of course, it does not matter if you already own it, but I guess everything you have already paid is free by nature. If you download the base game before November 18, you will be the owner of the basic game.
It's a good move: the pricing model on Destiny 2 and its three extensions are already pretty wacky, and it can be very difficult for someone who is not intimately familiar with the game to even understand how to go about buying the basic game at less to pick up a physical disk, which nobody does. For someone who does not know anything about the game and who wants to play, it can be a strange terrain to begin with. This is not how you want to introduce people to a game as a title of service.
But Destiny 2 is an excellent game, with some of the best shooting mechanics on the market and a constantly improving economy in the long run. The basic game offers a great campaign with lots of fun, and is a great introduction to an experience that many will surely want to continue. Players will soon see warlocks knocking out their enemies with lightning lasers or bows in the crucible so people will want to pay the extra money needed to move up to the current level. Abandoned expansion, which is thankfully excellent.
Frankly, I think the basic game of Destiny 2 should be free all the time, on all platforms, but a limited series like this is not such a bad starting point. Jump in, the water is addictive and is a little problematic.
