Before being a smartphone maker, an email provider and a smart home business, Google was only one website and one search field. However, even this seemingly simple service still has some tips in its sleeve. Users discovered that a full-text adventure was hidden on Google.com (via RockPaperShotgun) and was accessible to anyone who knew the secret method required to find it.
To access it, you must first use the correct browser. The Google browser, Chrome, supports it naturally, as well as Firefox and Edge (although we found that the line break was not quite correct on the Microsoft browser). Unfortunately, Safari does not seem to support this particular Easter egg.
Using the browser of your choice, you must first use the term "text adventure" in Google.
Then, right-click on the page and click "Inspect" (the Windows Ctrl + Shift + I or Cmd + Option + I for Mac shortcut will also work) and, in the menu that appears, select the " Console".
You should now see a little note asking "Do you want to play a game?"
Type "Yes" next to the prompt and you'll embark on a light adventure exploring the Google campus looking for letters from the company name.
If you've never played a text adventure before, you control your character by typing simple commands to progress through puzzles and story. If you type "north", "south", "east" or "west", you will cross the world, while other commands like "grab" and "use" will allow you to interact with objects of the world.
It sounds complicated, but it's really fun. I found it all too easy to lose myself and waste time when I had to write an article on how to find this Easter egg.
