HTC may finally launch its Vive Focus business self-powered helmet this month, but a brand new repository has asked what the company is currently working on.
The Taiwanese manufacturer of smart phones has recently registered a mark at EUIPO (the first site spotted by the Dutch site Mobielkopen) for a product called "Vive Cosmos". There is no exact description of what the name refers to, but the list indicates that it is related to a "head-mounted screen for computer simulated reality", among other things like "eyepieces for head-mounted displays" and "portable controllers for use in computer simulations of reality environments." For us, this all sounds like virtual reality.
These terms lead us to wonder whether the trademark refers to a new HTC VR headset, such as the successor of the Vive Pro, or perhaps a new name for the Vive Focus once the latter has obtained these controllers. promising at 6 degrees of freedom seen earlier this month. This is pure speculation on our part, but we wonder if the company could plan a new PC-based Vive that takes advantage of HTC's new live tracking technology, much like the all-new Oculus Rift S. welcome Valve's new SteamVR technology, like Knuckles controllers.
It is interesting to note that the mark also notes that the list relates to "computer peripherals for mobile devices allowing remote access and data transmission", which suggests that regardless of this new product, it could be related to wireless RV. Maybe a new Vive could come with HTC's recently released Vive wireless adapter technology (which some Ryzen owners have to return) built-in?
Anyway, the appearance of the list online makes us hope that the planning of HTC is announced at the beginning of the year. The company used the CES 2018 to announce the Vive Pro helmet. Maybe we could see something there.
