Huawei has already launched a flagship phone this year, but closes 2018 with another. The Mate 20 family, which has long rumors, is official and includes four devices: the Mate 20, the Mate 20 Pro, the Mate 20 RS and the Mate 20 X. Nobody will ever accuse Huawei of having launched too few phones. However, none of these new phones are intended for the United States.
The four new Mate 20 phones include similar internal hardware with the new Kirin 980 ARM chip and 128GB of storage. Some of the details such as RAM and water resistance values vary from one device to the other. The Mate 20 is the basic model of the series. It is IP53 compliant for water and dust only and starts at 4GB RAM with a 6GB upgrade. This phone comes with a 6.53-inch 1080p OLED with a small notch. water drop shape at the top of the front camera. At the rear, it is equipped with a triple camera with 16 sensors (normal), 12 (wide angle) and 8 MP (telephoto). This phone starts at 799 €.
The Mate 20 Pro is probably the "real" flagship phone this time around. It has all the latest Huawei technologies and an affordable price that consumers can swallow. It has the Kirin 980, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and IP68 certification. The 6.39-inch OLED 1440p has a wider screen in the front, but this time, the Mate 20 Pro has a 3D face recognition technology similar to that of the iPhone. A fingerprint sensor is also present on the screen. The cameras at the back are upgraded to 40 (normal), 20 (wide) and 8MP (telephoto). This phone starts at 899 €.
The Huawei's Mate 20 RS (or the Porsche Design Mate 20 RS if you want to be technical) looks like the Mate 20 Pro, but with some design changes. It has a curved OLED with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. It is also much more expensive, starting from € 1,695.
The Mate 20 X (above) is probably the strangest in the group thanks to its massive 7.2-inch 1080p OLED display. It's basically a small tablet that makes phone calls. It has a smaller notch in water drop and almost no glasses. It has the same internal specifications and cameras as the Mate 20 Pro, but the battery is larger at 5,000 mAh. The price is the same as the Mate 20 Pro, 899 €.
According to some measures, Huawei is the world's second largest maker of smartphones, but its attempt to expand to the United States in early 2018 failed when Congress members lobbied AT & T and Verizon to cancel the Mate 10 Pro. Huawei seems to have the suspicion and is not considering launching the Mate 20 series in the United States yet.
