Huawei Mate 20 X Practical Exam

Seven inches whole, it looks like a handful, is not it? When we talk about the screen of a smartphone, this is the case. Or rather, it certainly was. Return to Google's Nexus 7 tablet, which has a 7-inch screen and is not suitable for one-handed use. The new Huawei Mate 20 X has an even bigger screen of 7.2 inches and, surprisingly, it is possible to use it with one hand and daily.

Although the Mate 20 X can not be described as small, or even truly manageable, it is a technical marvel. It has a screen size that we normally associate with a small tablet, but if your pockets are big enough, you can carry it around and use it as your primary device. It's a phone. If you want or not, the question is different, but if it appeals, it's surprisingly normal despite the abnormal size of the screen.

Small bevels, small notch

Huawei has achieved this goal by minimizing glasses so much that they almost do not exist anymore. The chin is tiny, the side reinforcements are almost nothing, and the top of the phone has the same teardrop-shaped cute and almost completely acceptable view of the Mate 20.

The Mate 20 X is almost any screen with a screen to body ratio of 87%, and it's a beauty. The OLED panel has a resolution of 2244 x 1080, HDR support, and an 18.7: 9 aspect ratio. We've viewed pre-installed photos and demonstration videos and it was obvious that this phone would be great for the media.

The body is comfortable to hold, with the same well-designed curved edges as the Mate 20 Pro, and although it can be held in such a way that a screen of this size should not be as big, it's is still a huge phone. In our comparison picture, the Mate 20 X is next to an iPhone XS Max and manages to give its larger phone a rather small appearance. No, your thumb is not going to stretch on the other side of the screen, but if you hold it with both hands, it's okay.

Huawei Mate 20 X Compared to

Who is Huawei trying to attract with the Mate 20 X? Apart from Samsung, with a screen this size on a device that supports the stylus – it works with the Huawei Pen M Pen – it also adapts to the current trend of mobile gaming. It's not just the Razer Phone 2 or the Asus ROG phone to watch, it's the Nintendo switch. Huawei has created a joystick-style accessory that slips on one end of the phone, providing physical game controls. It works very well too. There is more grip, the analog d-pad is responsive and, in landscape orientation, the screen is superb – full of color and life.

High specifications, little comfort

The Mate 20 X features the Kirin 980 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage space, a 5,000 mAh battery and a new cooling system using steam and graphene to maintain temperatures under control. We were in a queue of people testing the Mate 20 X with the gamepad attached, and the phone was not even warm to the touch when our turn arrived, despite constant use, consuming a lot of energy. There is no unlocked 3D face though, and the fingerprint sensor is in the back. It was a bit of an exaggeration to reach.

There is a reason why few phones have such a big screen, and that's because they are inconvenient to carry.

Huawei has not confirmed where the Mate 20 X would be sold and, traditionally, these large devices are only marketed in China and some other countries. The phone will be released on October 26 at 900 euros, or $ 1,040. This is a high price to pay, and although the specifications are also high and the device is technologically impressive and very well designed, it's hard to see how much life it has outside of an audience very specific.

There is a reason why few phones have such a big screen, and that's because they are inconvenient to carry. It's also not a home-stay device, because it's really a phone, even if it's where we watch movies and play games for a long time. It's a confusing, but strangely appealing phone, which is always difficult to recommend compared to the Mate 20 Pro, which offers all the features, the best camera and a reasonable size for you to enjoy all those things where that you are.
