Huawei nano memory cards replace microSD on its latest phones

Huawei announced today an interesting addition: a new type of expandable storage called Nano Memory (NM), which replaces the traditional microSD card of the new Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro.

Huawei indicates that NM cards, of the same size and shape as those of a Nano SIM card, are 45% smaller than a microSD card and offer a version of at least 256 GB of storage and a transfer speed of 90 MB / s that the company has demonstrated on stage.

On the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, the NM card is placed in one of the slots of the dual SIM card tray, users having to choose between an additional storage and a second SIM card.

It now seems that the NM card is exclusive to Huawei, both for the phones that support memory cards and the storage companies that manufacture them (about nothing: remember Sony Memory Sticks?) expand your business to other companies as a new standard of storage – especially since dual SIM phones are becoming more and more popular to attract international markets (even Apple is currently making an iPhone to dual SIM card for China).

For now, we are still waiting for Huawei with basic information on the price and availability of NM cards announced today, not to mention the company's plans to eventually introduce a new standard storage format.
