Hyundai's first true step in the hot hatch segment, at least in the US, will be at a competitive base price.

The Korean brand revealed Tuesday that the Veloster N 2019 would start at $ 27,785, including destination.

The base price will offer buyers a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 generating 250 horsepower and coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox only. Other performance improvements over a standard Veloster include electronically controlled suspension, 13-inch front and 11.8-inch rear disc brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot summer tires Super Sport 225/40 R18 and a driving mode selector with different modes (Normal, Eco, Sport, N and N Custom).

The Base Veloster N models also feature custom fabric sports seats, a custom steering wheel and shift lever, an 8.0-inch infotainment display, larger exhaust outlets, and more. a high-end Infinity audio system with eight speakers and a subwoofer.

An optional N Performance package will add $ 2,100 to the price, but for those looking for the maximum of the hot Korean hatch, it's well worth it. The package optimizes the power of 275 hp and adds a limited slip differential. A variable exhaust system is included, as are the large 19-inch alloy wheels. The improved rubber comes from Pirelli in the form of P Zero summer tires that measure 235/35. The set also includes bigger brakes: 13.6 inches at the front and 12.4 inches at the rear. Unlike the Veloster N base, the front and rear brakes are also ventilated with the N Performance Package.

By comparison, the Veloster N prices are slightly higher than those of the founding father of the hot hatches, the Golf GTI. A GTI S base costs $ 27,310 after the destination, but the Veloster N also generates 30 more horsepower in its base trim. The Korean hatch is also cheaper than a Honda Civic Type R 2019, which costs $ 36,595 but consumes more energy at 305 hp.

In our first test on the Veloster N, we found it very fun to drive on the track, although somewhat rough on standard roads with 19-inch wheels and more aggressive tires from the N Performance pack. The standard 18-inch wheels should help remedy some of the rough prints we've experienced.

Hyundai started production of the Veloster N last September and buyers will now find the hot hatch on sale.
