I use them since Steve Jobs took out the envelope. I excited them publicly because they were simple, effective and reliable.

Nevertheless, the air has not changed so much for so long that it was reasonable to ask if there was a new one.

Apple is finally obliged. I had to go to an Apple Store to buy one. After all, this one had to be better and, well, it was moving for me.

I walked straight into an Apple Store in the Bay Area and a vendor m got up in seconds.

I explained that I had always used the Airs, that I loved them for their graces and that, please, sir, I would like to buy a new ones.

"Hmm," says the seller.

He followed with the last thing I expected: "When people say that, I like to show them the MacBook Pro."

"But, please," moaned my inner voice. "I just want to buy the new MacBook Air."

He did not hear it. Instead, he continued, "You see, with the MacBook Pro, you get a better computer."

He went on to discuss the useful comparison chart and spoke enthusiastically about the Pro.

"It has a better processor, so it's faster," he said. I was supposed to be impressed by all his GigaHertzes, but that was all mega hurtful.

I admit that my mind went off while he was talking about graphics cards and other figures that I had not quite understood. Because I was getting slightly frustrated.

"And all this for only 100 dollars more," he said.

And all that when I just asked could I please buy the new MacBook Air.

I found myself stunned for a few seconds. Then I asked what seemed to be the obvious question: "Is there anything better about the air?"

"Well, he still has two hours of autonomy and it's lighter," he said. And there, if I had not already been sold, I was completely sold.

Two things that really matter to me are that a laptop is lightweight and that its battery lasts much longer than that of my current Air.

The seller Pro was not finished.

"But the air is not much lighter," he said. "Here, try to take both of them."

I did it and I was of course already programmed to believe that the Air would be lighter. Much lighter.

I'm not sure I've ever had such an enthusiastic and passionate attempt to buy something different from what I wanted.

It was not an unpleasant conversation at all. It was just weird. It was as if the MacBook Pro was the special of the day and had to be sold, otherwise it would go out.

"You clearly want me to buy the Pro," I say. "Why?"

"I just think it's a better value," he repeated, still not defeated. He said that he understood if the Air met my needs, but he hinted that my needs were just not good.

"You know what?" I say adding a pause in the hope of creating a little tension. "I would like the air, please."

His head sagged a bit, as he had been rejected for an appointment. He did not even ask if I wanted 8GB or 16GB of memory. He assumed 8 and had to redo the order.

Maybe, in his mind, we, the air users, are lower primitive types that do not need a lot of memory.

I fear, however, that it is our long memories that force us to buy MacBook Air. We remember how good they have always been.

I do not know how this Air will compare to the classics I've been using for some time.

But one thing is certain: I will never buy a MacBook Pro. Just, you know, because.
