iFixit tries to drown an iPhone XS Max in 2 meters of beer

AThe flagship models of the iPhone XS and XS Max pple are the first handsets of the company to display an IP68 resistance to dust and water.

In his inaugural speech last week, Apple's Phil Schiller even detailed the various liquids on which Apple has tested its new waterproofing measures.

"The team tested a lot of different liquids in chlorinated water, salt water, orange juice, tea, wine and even beer," said Schiller. "And it's one of the most fun and intense tests we have to do at Apple."

According to official IP68 standards, the gauge is described as completely dust-proof and "suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions that must be specified by the manufacturer".

Of course, these are rather conservative estimates. We have already covered an iPhone X that has managed to survive two weeks at the bottom of a river and come out unscathed. While there have been other feats of iPhone water survival, it's by far the longest time we've ever seen.

Now, the iFixit disassembly site is determined to determine whether the new iPhone XS can actually survive for a long time with a 2 meter liquid tube.

But iFixit was not content with the water. Although it is only a casual mention, Apple said that the waterproofness of the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max had been tested with beer.

In the spirit of these "fun and intense" tests, I fix it uses beer in his own test. (Although we do not know if it's a Belgian beer or an IPA.)

Currently, the disassembly site is recording a live video of the test. It's worth seeing, if only for the old-fashioned soundtrack.

At the time of writing this article, the iPhone XS Max in the tank has survived about 4 hours and 30 minutes to 2 meters of brown infusion. I fix it said that he will keep the iPhone until 3 pm Pacific Time or he dies (which at this point does not seem really likely).
