Inateck 9 in 1 USB-C Hub Review – The Gadgeteer

[ad_1]

REVIEW – Recently, I had access to a MacBook and I immediately understood the need to have a USB-C hub to use all the accessories and peripherals desired. This was all the more true as the only ports on my MacBook Pro are 2 USB-C ports. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to test and review the Inateck 9-1 USB Hub. Here is a review of my experience.

What is it?

The Inateck 9-in-1 USB-C Hub is a compact and lightweight hub that allows you to use a USB-C port on your MacBook / laptop and extend it to support all accessories / peripherals commonly used.

What's in the box

Design and features

On the side of the hub shown below, from left to right, there is a USB Type C port, 2 USB 3.0 ports, a lower SD card slot, and a higher micro SD card slot.

On the opposite side, as shown below, from left to right, you will find an HDMI port, a VGA port, a gigabit Ethernet port, and a USB type 100W PD charging port.

At the bottom of the hub is an integrated USB-C cable that can be stored until you are ready to use it.

Performance

This center is well behaved in all respects. In the first image below, I show the MacBook Pro USB-C AC adapter connected to the hub's direct USB-C power port. This allows you to charge / power the MacBook Pro when using the hub and also power the USB charging port.

Below, I have a USB-C male to USB adapter A female adapter connected to the USB-C data port of the hub. I then have a 2.4Ghz USB wireless dongle connected to the adapter that allows me to use my wireless mouse.

Here, my MacBook Pro and a monitor are connected to the hub. I am mirrored from the screen. The monitor is connected to the hub via the HDMI connection. I've also connected the monitor successfully via the VGA connection.

The hub worked without any access or operational problems for all that I tested. The only thing I notice is that after each period of use, about 8 hours, the hub body is quite hot. I do not know how the heat will affect the performance of the hub over time and after repeated and continuous use.

What I like

  • Size, weight and portability
  • The number of accessories / peripherals that it hosts
  • Integrated USB-C cable
  • The transit food port
  • The charging port powered

What can we improve

  • Better heat dissipation so that heat does not shorten the life of the device

Last thoughts

I like a lot the 9-in-1 USB-C hub. This allows me to add just about any accessory I need, and to use almost any of the data drives that I use commonly, directly or via a USB card reader. Even though I have not tried it yet, I am confident that I can use this hub on my laptop via a USB-C female to USB A adapter. This simple but effective device gets two inches from me !!
