Instagram down: the app does not work because it refuses to load photos and profiles of people

Instagram has stopped working because people can not see their photos or profiles.

Users receive empty profiles instead and a message that the application "can not refresh the stream".

The web version of the application also has problems. Going to any page, a "5xx server error" appears.

The problems particularly affect users in Northern Europe, Australia and the West Coast of the United States, according to the website Down Detector's Fault Tracking website. But it's probably because of time zones – in California, where Instagram is based, it's past midnight.

The problems come in a difficult time for Instagram. The company's two founders left in recent days as rumors circulated that it disagreed with Facebook about how the company should be run.

And after Facebook hacking was revealed over the weekend, it appeared that users and Instagram accounts would also have been trapped if they had used their Facebook ID to create their Instagram account.

These problems are not thought to have anything to do with the current failure, which is almost certainly a technical fault. Instagram lacks from time to time and can have significant repercussions on the internet, since more than a billion people use it every month.
