I literally only had it for a few hours, but my impressions so far can be summed up in one word:

It looks absolutely beautiful.
Certainly, Apple describes it as "any screen" as a hyperbole: there is still a significant amount of cache – which is necessary to be able to hold comfortably and to leave room for the Face ID camera system and others without the need of A notch. But honestly, "any screen" does not seem exaggerated. It's really pretty close to that.
I also like flat sides. Hard-working readers will know that I am a big fan of the iPhone 4/5 / SE slab design, more than the newer round-edge iPhones. So I like the design here. It's a bit like the first-generation iPad, but without the bulbous back, of course.
For me, an elegant slab-side design that was not present in the previous generation is elegantly simple.
Once again, I love the size of the screen, just like the original 12.9-inch model. And again, it's not so much that this size seems great, but that returning to that of 10.5 inches (or 9.7 inches one last time) seems small. When using, the 12.9-inch screen feels good.
Visually, it does not look thinner than the old 10.5 inches because you draw a small optical illusion through the way the top tilts, but you can barely see the difference.
Feel
It's light.
I was worried that the weight of my 10.5-inch model would not feel heavier in my hands. Yet, despite being 40% heavier, this is really not the case. If I had to judge subjectively, I would have guessed something closer to 20%.
The only time I noticed that the extra weight held it in a hand in landscape mode, but even that does not seem to me terrible, and it's something I do not do often.
I will certainly not notice the extra weight that wins, I just tested the position of "reading books in bed" and it's comfortable there too. So I answered my question about the weight: it is not a problem.

I will talk more about the experience of using it later in the week. As always, if there are specific things you would like me to do, let me know and I will do my best. But first impressions are fantastic!
Like all Apple devices nowadays, I love the simple configuration process: get them close to an iPhone or iPad and let it fend for itself.
It's great to have an ID and gestures on the iPad I looked forward to the iPad catching the iPhone X experience, and now that's the case.
A small detail: during configuration, Apple calls the power button the 'top' button, and in landscape mode the on-screen illustration shows the iPad oriented so that the button is at the top to the left. But the magnets do not align in the same way on the folio: you must have it so that the power button is at the bottom right in landscape mode. I do not care about the direction it takes, but it worries me a little bit that I know this is a detail that Apple has not transpired.
Speaking of the folio case, I've already said that I was disappointed that Apple does not offer a simple smart protection, and this remains the case: I'm happy to let the back open and not to add thickness to the device. However, I will say two things. First of all, the folio is extremely light, so I have no trouble getting a back. Secondly, it sinks so easily against the back that it's less work to do than on the smart wallet.
The magnets are however very powerful: it is necessary to deploy more efforts to remove it from the folio. But overall, I do not complain too much about change.
I am happy to use USB-C instead of Lightning. It will be convenient to use my MacBook Pro charger with either device. The iPad – like its predecessor – is also responsible for my 15-inch MacBook Pro.
But most importantly, I am absolutely amazed to have this size screen in a device as small and light. I really did not really want to go back to the original model. I was completely in love with the size of the screen. But it was too big and heavy. This one is neither one nor the other. Even in the short time that I had to use so far today, the size and weight of my hands are already quite normal, but in addition to the amazing feel of this screen.
The video is really great with this size and the speakers are incredibly powerful. Magazines give the impression that you are viewing a full size page in portrait mode. Ebooks allow you to see much more text on a screen, so fewer pages returned. For websites, I switched to portrait mode because the page width does not seem too small and you can see a lot more at one time. I'm not a great player, but I just launched XPlane, and it is clear that the games are also much more immersive on this screen of this size.
In short, I feel the same about this display that I have made about the original: I absolutely love it. But this time, I do not feel like I'm compromising on size or weight.
Even though the speakers are meant for video, they still are not what I consider to be music quality speakers. The amount of bass is as impressive as the volume and stereo separation is excellent, but they are still tiny integrated speakers, and the audio quality is a reflection.
Before the launch, I did not know if the 11 or 12.9 inch model would suit me. Later, I had the impression that the larger iPad would probably win, and I already feel that it is the case.
I rarely feel excited about a new iPhone. I look forward to their arrival, of course, but I usually do not look forward in the direction of the front door. IPads are different. My MacBook Pro is my main Apple device, simply because I do so much more with it, but if I had to identify my most beloved device, it would be my iPad. I was looking forward to this one coming in and I'm excited to have it. This is the best iteration of my favorite gadget.
