The iPhone XS series has no signature feature, people will say, a tip that distinguishes the phone from all previous models. But this is not the case. Well, not quite. The iPhone XS and XS Max support the dual SIM card available in eSIM format in Western markets and support for dual SIM card in China. The iPhone XS and XS Max are the first iPhones to support the dual SIM card, which would make it the signature feature of the series.
Dual SIM support does not generate as much hype in the US or Europe as it does in Asia, so it's so easy to remove. But, make no mistake, dual-SIM is a big deal, especially considering how Apple does it.
Apple has finally convinced operators to support virtual SIM cards (eSIM) on iPhone, but not all mobile operators will offer it initially. The feature is not even activated at this time – Apple has already set up help pages explaining how eSIM will work.
according to 9to5Mac, iOS 12 beta 1, already available for download, activates the eSIM on iPhone XS and XS Max. But that does not mean much until the operators support it.
The eSIM settings are already available in iOS 12.1 beta, as shown below, but you need a QR code from your carrier to activate a virtual SIM card on your iPhone. You can also do this if you have the activation code, entering the required details manually.
All you need to do to view the eSIM settings screens is to install iOS 12 beta 1, then go to the Settings app then Cellular. A labeled menu item Add a cellular plan will be visible and you will need to press it to advance.
9to5Mac also says that T-Mobile is not yet ready to support eSIM. But Deutsche Telekom users in Germany can take advantage of this feature, iPhone-Ticker.de reports.
As you can see in the picture above, two different numbers are activated on an iPhone XS under iOS 12 beta 1.
