iPhone XS vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9 for the game "Fortnite"

About two weeks ago, AppleInsider compared the iPhone X to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 while playing at Fortnite. With the release of the iPhone XS and XS Max, are there as much difference between the flagship models of the two companies as last time?

Before playing Fortnite, the iPhone XS Max was loaded to the maximum capacity of the battery and the brightness was also set to 100%, with automatic brightness off. Do not disturb is enabled, Bluetooth is disabled, and no application open in the background can influence the result.

An obvious change from the last comparison is the screen, which is absolutely huge compared to the iPhone X and XS. It's quite difficult to explain how different it is.

Getting out of the bus the first time, the game was incredibly fluid, with no loss of images. During the previous test, some lost images were spotted every time I got off the bus on iPhone X and Note 9.

One thing that I immediately noticed is that the speakers are clear and crisp. It's like you could hear everyone around you and know exactly where they were.

The gameplay is surprisingly smooth and, even while playing on a mobile device, it's actually an awesome gaming experience, with no loss of images or minimal delay. The user interface and controls are very easy to use due to the larger screen, much easier than on the iPhone X which had a fairly narrow user interface, which makes me very easy to use. sometimes forced to press buttons.

Another difference is that the notch seems smaller than the massive screen size, so it does not bother you as much as iPhone X and XS slots.

After about 45 minutes of play, the iPhone XS Max is over with an autonomy of 87%, which is impressive for a lifetime of 100%. Throughout the game session, I have not noticed any loss of images on the iPhone XS.

This is probably the best mobile gaming experience you can get.

Fortnite on Galaxy Note 9

The story is the same on Note 9, starting with a full battery, maximum brightness and automatic dimming. Again, no background application is open and Bluetooth is off.

An interesting thing is that the screen of the Note 9 is actually smaller, measuring 6.4 inches against 6.5 inches on the iPhone XS Max. However, the notch is not taken into account in the measurements, so that, technically, the note 9 has more room on the screen.

The Note 9's speakers are a bit quieter than the iPhone XS Max, sounding a bit dull and flat. The speakers of the XS Max sound so loud, so clean and clear that the note 9 does not compare.

Leaving the bus for the first time, we immediately noticed lost images, while the iPhone XS Max did not know any of them. The screen also looks a little blue, and this is probably due to the fact that the iPhone XS Max features True Tone technology, which adjusts the ambient light to give the screen a white appearance, All the time.

During the game we saw even more lost pictures. The Wi-Fi connection is exactly the same, it's not due to Internet connectivity. This is probably because the Note 9 processor and GPU do not work as well as the new XS Max Bionic A12 chip.

While playing, I found myself trying to mount the speakers louder, but they were already fully up. I've also noticed that the screen of the iPhone XS Max seems to be a little brighter than the note 9.

After approximately 45 minutes of total playing time on Note 9, the battery was 83%. A little weaker than the iPhone XS Max, but still very similar in terms of autonomy.

We then activated the recording on the screen of note 9 to see how it would work. After a game, it seemed to play pretty well, but we still suffered losses of frames.

We did the same thing on the iPhone XS Max and the gameplay was just as fluid as before, however, we encountered a small problem.

During the recording, the volume dropped significantly, so low that it was difficult to hear the footsteps of nearby players. We do not know if this is a bug that will be corrected soon, but it was really embarrassing.

What is the best phone for Fortnite games?

After a few long gaming sessions on iPhone XS Max and Galaxy Note 9, here's our conclusion.

First of all, I mean that the massive display on the XS Max offers the most immersive gaming experience possible on an iPhone.

The screen seems to be a little brighter than the Note 9, which actually seemed brighter than the iPhone X during our previous test. It's also a bit bigger than the Note 9 display, so it's a little more immersive.

However, the colors on the note 9 are more saturated, which is fine if you prefer that. The XS Max's display looks more natural while being very colorful. True Tone is definitely an asset in my book because I do not support visibly too blue displays in a tungsten-lit room.

In terms of performance, the iPhone XS Max was basically perfect at all times. We have not observed any loss of images, so we are extremely impressed. Note 9 has seen a number of slowdowns during our gaming sessions, so the XS Max is definitely winning.

The speakers of the XS Max are much more powerful, sharper and sharper, the difference being immediately visible when I went from the Note 9 to the iPhone. Apple has certainly done a good job with the speakers of the XS Max.

When recording on screen, Note 9 seems to operate at a similar level, but still suffers from image loss. However, the speakers were quite good, unlike the iPhone XS Max which saw reduced volumes when recording the screen.

When we compared the iPhone X to note 9, it was a draw, although the 9 note is a new device.

This time we have to give the win to the iPhone XS Max. This is certainly the phone to get if you want to play Fortnite, both for performance and for the huge Super Retina display.
