Many Sony fans are disappointed today to learn that there will be no PlayStation Experience (PSX) this year, although the event has taken place over the last four years. This is not in the charts for 2018, and Shawn Layden, of Sony, explained why on the PlayStation blogcast:
"We will not have it in the United States this year," he said. "The reasons behind this is that we do not have … we have a lot of progress that we make in our games … Now that we have Spider-Man at the door, we are in 2019 games like Dreams and Days Gone. "
Sony had a great year with the release of God of the war and Spider Manbut it seems like things are shrinking to the point where they really do not have everything to share. I had Google what dreams was same, and the fact that The last of us part 2 is not even mentioned here implies that the game is still miles away, and may not even happen next year.
But there is one thing that has not been said here that can have a lot to do with this decision. The exclusive slate of Sony seems a little sterile, because what new exclusives are under development are probably for the PlayStation 5. And although Sony may not be ready to talk about the PS5 this winter, it goes without saying that we could easily see a first event the year next as we did with the PS4. fashioned and announce it to the E3.
Microsoft has been a bit more talkative about the "family" of Xbox devices that will come out at some point. But Sony has even less said.
Despite all this, it is still not correct to guess that the PlayStation 5 will be available in the fall / holidays 2019, even if some analysts guessed it. The PS4 is still selling very well and is talking about it every few months with its great exclusive versions. By announcing the PS5, say this spring, and letting go, the fall is fast, even if East six years after the debut of the PS4 in 2013.
On the contrary, the "correct" plan would seem to be a winter / spring 2020 version of The last of us part 2, followed by a PS5 announcement in late spring, followed by more details and games at E3, followed by an outing in the fall of 2020. This is a calendar that makes sense to me.
If anything, I could see Microsoft being the only one trying to beat Sony to market with an Xbox Two and any other device it will release in 2019. The Xbox One is selling … less well, and I think Microsoft is probably impatient to move on. And I do not think they want to compete with Sony again, given the poor situation in 2013. The year 2019 may be less unrealistic for them.
We will know soon enough.
