It turns out that Pixel 3 is more expensive than you think when it comes to storage

There is no doubt that we live in the era of the very expensive phone. And during this period when some start at $ 1,000 dizzy, Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL, which are on sale today, seem to be much compared to their competitors.

It makes sense at first sight; the Pixel 3 starts at $ 800, £ 739 and AU $ 1,199, which is well below the iPhone XS and Note 9is the starting price. And even its counterpart Pixel 3 XL does not exceed the price of these phones, despite a larger screen and a battery more durable than the Pixel 3.

But if you take into account the storage and the lack of external memory of the pixel, its value is not so obvious. Of course, there are other characteristics to consider when buying a phone: its camera, operating system and design all play a role in the decision to buy people.

But among high-end phones, most work the same way. They all have great cameras and ultra fast processors and run on iOS or Android. As unobtrusive as the sound of "memory and storage", such granular considerations become important – especially for high-end phones vying for your hard-earned money.

Thus, in terms of storage, the Pixel 3 does not stand out, despite a reasonable starting price. Take a look at the calculation:

Of all the phones in this room, this year's Galaxy phones actually have the best price / performance ratio. The 256GB version of the Galaxy S9For example, it costs about $ 3 and $ 5 for the concert. In the UK, Samsung only sells the 64GB variant and, unfortunately, its price distribution is not as economical. However, the 256 GB Galaxy S9 Plus fate at £ 4, which is not shabby. Note 9 (especially the 512 GB model) is however the best value. Although it is the most expensive solution at the start, the 9 note breaks down into just $ 2, £ 2 and $ 4 AU per concert.

In addition to that, the three Galaxy phones have an expandable storage. The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have an additional capacity of 400 GB, while you can add 512 GB to the Note 9. This greatly increases the value of the three phones, especially if you consider that a 128 GB microSD card does not cost too much – about $ 25, £ 24 or AU $ 45. This means you can store even more photos, videos and other content on your device.

With its luxurious appearance and exclusive material, Apple's flagship products cost a nice penny. But like Note 9, the 512 GB level of the iPhone XS breaks down into a few dollars per gig (2.63 USD, 2.63 GBP and 4.29 AU $ to be exact). Of the three iPhones this year, the XS is actually the cheapest in terms of storage, despite the upcoming iPhone XRis touted as the most affordable iPhone.

One thing to note is that the iPhone XR has, however, a 128GB model instead of 512GB. For many, it's the "sweet spot" – the Goldilocks option that is neither too small neither too big. For this model, you will pay about $ 6, £ 6 and AU $ 10 per concert.

As you can see on the chart, the price per concert of the original Pixel 64GB model ($ 12, £ 12 and AU $ 19) is between the cheapest Galaxy S9 ($ 11, £ 12 and $ 19) and the most expensive iPhone XS ($ 16, £ 16 and $ 25).

But if we look at which phone is the best offer from each of the three companies, Google's phone is the most expensive. The Pixel 3 (128 GB) costs $ 7, AU $ 7 and AU $ 11, but the iPhone XS (512 GB) costs $ 3, AU $ 3 and AU $ 4, while the Galaxy Note 9 (512 GB) is even cheaper at $ 2, £ 2 and $ 4 AU.

What about unlimited storage of photos from Pixel 3?

Oh yes, all that. For users of Pixel 3 and 3 XL, Google offers unlimited storage of photos and videos in their original resolution. It's a huge deal because photos and videos consume most of our phone's memory. Having this free cloud backup is a big draw for the Pixel 3, and that's why some users do not really care about the fact that the Pixel 3 does not have an expandable storage. (For comparison, Apple's iCloud service costs $ 10, £ 7 and AU $ 15 per month for 2 TB).

But there are caveats. Google will only record photos and videos in full resolution until January 31, 2022. Content that you have saved before will be kept in its original quality. However, everything that follows will be recorded at a "high" resolution.

There is also the question of whether you save your photos in Photos anyway. Sometimes it's not always possible – like when you travel and you have Wi-Fi and inconsistent data. Other times, you simply do not want it. While it's handy to upload photos to a cloud and access them on any device you sign in with your Google Account, everyone (including myself) does not want to do it.

Some of the interesting privacy breaches reported this year include Facebook's Analytica scandal, Samsung's bizarre and confusing photo bug, the recent phishing scam affecting Chinese users and their Apple ID. and Google's vulnerability with Google, many people refuse to give more data. especially when it is avoidable.

Meanwhile, local apps and games, music, movies, and podcasts that are backed up locally also help to use your phone's memory.

Do not get me wrong, the Pixel 3 is a great phone. With its exceptional camera, sleek design and useful Google software, it is in fact one of my favorite phones of the year. But if the main asset for you is to have a phone with a large amount of memory integrated at a good price, the Pixel 3 does not suit you.
