Google's services are ubiquitous enough to make them remarkable when they break down. Tonight, it seems that many services are down, including YouTube, and a quick search on Twitter reveals that this is a fairly common problem.

Update: After a scary Two hours later, YouTube servers and Play Store transactions begin to recover simultaneously. Both problems seem likely to be related. Hopefully Google will provide an explanation of the crash soon.

According to DownDetector, most people who witnessed the YouTube outage are in the eastern and western United States and the United Kingdom. The site records a very significant increase in reports of the breakdown of the most popular video hosting site on the Web.

Readers as widespread as Canada, India, Australia and Brazil also reported being affected.

More than 2,000 site reports on DownDetector during the last hour were reported, compared with an average of less than 10 per hour. As noted below, many users see the usual "500 Internal Server Error" message that often appears when something is wrong with YouTube.

"A team of highly trained monkeys has been sent to deal with this situation," says the website.

Beyond that, it seems that the Google Play Store also suffers from a problem when it tries to perform a transaction. It's unclear whether the problem is with the Play Store or the Google Pay service.

Other services can also be assigned and we monitor the corresponding reports.
