A new high definition remaster of the original Katamari Damacy called Katamari Damacy Reroll was released for the Switch and the PC in December.
In addition to support for local split-screen multiplayer mode, Katamari Damacy Reroll also has movement controls available through the Joy-Cons, though I think I'll stick to the usual input since that's what the game was originally built for.
Apart from the fact that Bandai Namco still does not call this game Katamari Damashii Outside of Japan, I'm really happy to see the first game in the series giving a wider audience on the Switch and the PC.
The original game was launched in 2004 on the PlayStation 2 and you had to wrap various objects in an ever increasing congestion ball. Goals varied between picking up items and reaching a size limit.
What was particularly impressive was that as the ball grew, the items you could pick up would be bigger and bigger. This means that you could start by picking up boxes on the floor and end up rolling on the skyscrapers towards the end of a level.
The last level of the first match led to a particularly epic conclusion, as you could choose islands in the ocean.
The story of these games was also pretty crazy and was accompanied by an equally unreal visual diffusion. The music was also fantastic and included all kinds of famous Japanese musicians and suited the game perfectly.
In any case, if you were not there to play the game in 2004, you will have another chance later this year on the Switch.
Katamari Damacy Reroll was released for the Switch on November 30 via eShop and December 7 for its physical version. There will also be a PC version of the game.
