The co-founder and former CEO of Telltale Games has issued a public statement regarding the potential layoffs and closures of the studio. Kevin Bruner launched Telltale in 2004, but new investors forced him to leave his leadership position in 2017. Now, while he was still involved in a legal brawl with his former company, the studio fired most of its collaborators, according to a source. has confirmed for GamesBeat and other press articles. Telltale is now a simple crew trying to finish The Walking Dead: Season Three.
"I can say that I did everything in my power to prevent today from happening," Bruner told GamesBeat. "I never wanted anything but Telltale to prosper."
The former boss of Telltale elaborated in a statement on his personal website.
"Today, I am especially saddened by the people who are losing their jobs in a studio they like," he said. "And I'm also saddened by the loss of a studio that has lit up crazy ideas that no one else could envision. I am reassured to know that there are now more talented people and studios creating games in the evolving narrative genre. While I look forward to these games and new developments, and I continue to contribute, I will always find that "A game of information" has been a unique offer. "

Bruner oversaw Telltale from a small studio trying to make adventure games with success in 2012 with The Walking Dead. It was GamesBeat's Game of the Year, which won the Game of the Year and Studio of the Year at the Spike Parade. This success has allowed a broad audience to discover the potential of storytelling and characters on interactive media.

In 2017, led by Lionsgate investor, Telltale's board removed Bruner from his position as CEO and replaced him with co-founder Dan Connors. Later in the year, the company turned to former Zynga CEO Pete Hawley to take over the company. During this period, Mr Bruner claims that the company deprived him of any communication, which in his view constitutes a violation of his shareholder rights. Council has also withdrawn as a member. Bruner says the council did not have the necessary votes to enforce this eviction.
Earlier this year, Bruner sued Telltale for interrupting him. In July, this case was brought to court. From this hearing, the case was ongoing. The court is scheduled to convene a new hearing on October 17. I went to Bruner and Telltale to ask if this hearing was going to continue.

Today is a very sad day.
A year and a half ago, I left Telltale after a long period of time when the board and I had very different visions of Telltale's future and how we could get there. It was one of the most difficult moments of my professional life, but the company is finally controlled by its board of directors and I respected its decisions.
As co-founder, I take great pride in the fact that we were able to create the kind of games that I am passionate about creating, exploring, evolving and perfecting (if possible). We have created an important new brand, helped define a new genre and thrived for more than a decade.
We have pursued projects that no one else would consider. The dead who walk, Borderlands Tales, The wolf among us, Batman, Minecraft, Puzzle Agent, Poker night and Sam & Max are the kind of projects that I have personally loved and have poured my heart and soul into each one. This is the kind of project that no other publisher or studio would touch. We chose to venture where others did not dare to go and we found success along the way. It took a lot of vision, luck, willingness, teamwork, talent and very long days and nights to get there, but it will have always been worth it.
And we did everything by growing up, attracting some of the most talented people I know. We also wanted our employees to always have a home. Before I left, we were able to avoid mass layoffs and managed to make sure we still had work for everyone. We worked hard and sometimes it seemed like we had more than we could handle, but we stayed together and went forward.
Today, I am especially saddened by people who lose their jobs in a studio they love. And I am also saddened by the loss of a studio that has lit crazy ideas that no one else would consider. I am reassured to know that there are now more talented people and studios creating games in the evolving narrative genre. While I await these games and new developments with anticipation and continue to contribute, I will always find that "A Telltale Game" has been a unique offer.
