A major overhaul
The Apple Watch Series 4 marks the biggest change ever made to the fundamental design of the product. The case of the watch is now thinner and the screen is larger with a larger corner radius.
The corners of the screen correspond to the radius of the shell, which allows the screen to adopt a look almost identical to that of the iPhone. This design change allowed Apple to provide a larger screen without significantly increasing the size of the watch case.

The 38 mm watch has been replaced by a new size of 40 mm and the old size of 42 mm has been replaced by a new size of 44 mm. There is a noticeable change, especially for those who spend from an Apple Watch 38 mm to an upgrade.
The 40 mm watch has a larger display area than the previous generation of 42 mm, while maintaining a similar profile to that of 38 mm.
Reuse the same watchbands
If you have invested a lot of money in the acquisition of different types of groups for the last three generations of Apple Watch, you will be happy to know that these same groups will work on the Apple Watch Series 4.
S4 system faster in a package
The new S4 system in a set is, according to Apple, twice as fast as the previous S3 processor. The result is an Apple Watch that starts faster, launches applications faster and feels more responsive. This is the first version of the Apple Watch that seems to me downright fast, virtually without delay, whatever the operation.
Redesigned digital crown
The redesigned digital crown is 30% smaller, but features more components than previous versions of the Apple Watch. And for the first time, Series 4 offers a haptic feedback when scrolling with the digital crown. Read our detailed article on the new digital crown to learn more.
Electric heart sensors
You'll notice a new sensor housing design on the back of the Apple Watch case, which now incorporates a new electrical heart sensor with the standard optical heart sensor. In addition, the Digital Crown receives an integrated electrical heart sensor. Both sensors work together to allow users to generate an ECG via the next ECG application to measure heart health data.
Stronger haptic feedback
Apple Watch models in stainless steel have always been a bit lacking in haptic feedback compared to lighter aluminum models. With the Apple Watch Series 4, haptic feedback seems significantly stronger in watches with stainless steel case.
Same battery life all day
Although the new Apple Watch is thinner and more powerful, the watch offers the same autonomy, which should remain on average about 18 hours in normal use.
New gold stainless steel
Like the iPhone XS and XS Max, the Apple Watch receives a brand new gold-colored stainless steel for 2018.
50% stronger speaker
watchOS 5 supports the ability to interact with Siri in hands-free mode without using the "Hey Siri" command. And now, the Apple Watch Series 4 has the best Siri experience with a 50% more powerful redesigned speaker.
Moved microphone
Earlier versions of the Apple Watch featured a microphone placed on the same side of the case that housed the speaker. Such placement may cause echoes and other unwanted comments during phone calls. Apple Watch Series 4 solves this problem by placing the microphone on the opposite side of the case.
New dials
Infograph and Infograph Modular are two new dials exclusive to Apple Watch Series 4. The two new dials offer a dense presentation of information that occupies most of the display area. Computer graphics, for example, offers users up to eight complications at a time. Learn how to customize the Infograph watch face with our hands-on tutorial.
Fall detection
Fall Detection is a new exclusive feature for Series 4 owners that can be activated via SOS emergency settings. If the user does not respond to prompts when Apple Watch detects a fall, it automatically contacts the emergency contacts via SMS and calls the emergency services.
watchOS 5
It is not necessary to be an owner of Apple Watch Series 4 to benefit from many new features made possible by the latest fall software updates. watchOS 5 also provides many new features for owners of series 1, 2 and 3.
watchOS 5 offers new applications such as walkie talkies and podcasts, as well as new features such as automatic detection of training, access to control centers and notification within applications, as well as the appearance of new dials. Conclusion
The Apple Watch Series 4 is a major improvement over previous editions of Apple Watch. Even if you have version 3 of last year, you will find that series 4 is a major update. Not only is it thinner and sleeker with a bigger screen, but it's visibly faster and more responsive. Other subtleties, such as a louder speaker, a moved microphone and haptic remarks for the Digital Crown, are just the icing on an already tasty cake.
