Anyone can find something special in New York Fashion Week, whether you like it or not. Yes, even you, Noted Car Dude. It's because Kia decided it was time for us to start dropping the beginnings of production models in the midst of fancy clothes and high profile celebrities.
The Telluride 2020 first appeared at the Detroit Auto Show in early 2016, but things have been pretty quiet since. It makes sense that they want to come back stronger and what better place to attract unexpected attention than a week of fashion?
It's a revelation that makes sense, promised. See, according to Autoblog, fashion designer Brandon Maxwell has reached an agreement with Kia, where the car would give his childhood school in Marfa, in exchange for the SUV, a central place on the show. And yes, the Kia is even dressed in fashion, with fake luggage and splashing mud. This is the kind of aesthetic that Maxwell envisioned for his own clothing collection.
So, yes, the machine displayed at Fashion Week is not exactly what goes into production. This version is chic. He is dressed in his specialized hiking gear to climb mountains. You will not find bumpers, skid plates or off-road ladders while driving Kia every day. Consider this as the Instagram version of the car you are going to buy.
You can certainly see how the concept has influenced this particular design, but there have certainly been some changes. It's still a rather square SUV, but Kia softened the head and tail lights to give it a much more rounded shape. The tailgate and the front are both softened, not quite so hard.
Since the Telluride debuted at a Fashion Week instead of an auto show, the focus is on the look. The technical details are not the highlight of a crowd that appreciates something beautiful (including cars). And since there's still a lot of time before the car goes into production – they're not looking to sell Telluride until early next year – there's a good chance some of these details are still in motion.
However, we make know that it will be one of the most important crossovers in its class. It will accommodate eight passengers as opposed to the seven of Sorento. And it will be equipped with a V6 engine.
Apart from that, however, we do not know exactly what will happen. But I have to give it to Kia: they did a great job of finding a way to get everyone's attention.
