Here is the LY 650, the first luxury yacht of the Japanese car company Lexus. It is a continuation of the company's Sport Yacht Concept and will be the first production vessel to express the theme of "L-finesse" design on the water. The boat builder Marquis-Larson Boat Group will build, sell and maintain the ship when it goes into production in 2019.
Lexus has been very brave lately, giving free rein to the exploration of craftsmanship with a strong Japanese twist as seen with the latest family of cars. For example, the newly developed LS 500h, for example, incorporates unique features such as hand-pleated door panels and optional glassware based on the ancient Japanese technique "Kiriko". With this latest LY 650, Lexus will continue to examine its design identity, using its heritage and introducing the craftsmanship of Lexus Takumi, especially with the interior. Executive Vice President Shigeki Tomoyama says his desire is "to present a dream vision of luxury lifestyle; the one where the Lexus yacht expands the potential of Lexus mobility to the ocean. "
Many of the features introduced in the SYacht Concept port has been translated into production for the LY 650. The study ship was first revealed in Miami last January, and in March won a special prize at the Japan International Boat Show. Designed by the internal Lexus team, the idea was to find ways to explore luxury and active lifestyles. It was also looking for new materials and powerplants. For example, the hull, the internal structure and the superstructure of the 42-foot open sport cruiser are made of hand-laid carbon fiber, vacuum infused with two-part polyurethane resin. Power is provided by two versions of the 5.0-liter Lexus V8 engine, complying with marine specifications, as evidenced by the RC F Coupe and GS F performance models and the new LC 500 coupe. The yacht concept was designed by the Toyota's marine division and a single proof of concept concept was also built in partnership with the Marquis-Larson group.
With a 65-foot overall length and a 19-foot beam shape, the production yacht LY 650 features a powerful, pronounced bow, curved bridge accents and accentuated rear hips. Seen in profile, the elegant rise and fall of the yacht's roofline, echoing those of the Lexus cars, flow into the rising hips of the rear section. the new yacht will have luxury cabins under the deck and space to accommodate up to 15 guests. Connected services using the company's new Mobility Services platform will offer security features, smartphone integration, remote diagnostics, maintenance and other services.
The yacht project fits into a broader strategy aimed at inspiring other creative worlds – non-automotive projects. This includes annual design awards at Salone del Mobile, film projects, culinary work and now yacht building. The president of the company, Yoshihiro Sawa, describes his vision of Lexus "to explore new ways to deliver innovative and amazing experiences to our customers."
The first completed Lexus LY 650 is expected to be completed in the second half of 2019 and will make its world debut at the end of the year. Specifications, prices and other details will be announced at a later date.
